For Professionals

West Penn Burn Center supports a wide range of education and research opportunities for healthcare professionals.

Ongoing research initiatives include

  • wound care
  • resuscitation
  • psychological implications of burn injuries

We welcome doctors from around the corner and around the globe; our research initiatives contribute to local, national and international advances in treatment and care delivery.  Research projects at the Center have helped develop techniques that reduce the length of patient stays, lessen or prevent scarring and improve overall healing.


Graduate Education

West Penn Burn Center offers graduate training opportunities for physicians and medical students who wish to increase their knowledge of burns and gain clinical experience in burn injury treatment.

West Penn Burn Center also offers continuing education classes for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Clinical rotations are available to student nurses, residents, physician assistant students and medical students. Outreach programs for student nurses who are considering burn care as a specialty also are available.
